Calculations
In the
calculations for capacity, lateral torsional
buckling, strut action, combined axial and
bending, and appendix G type buckling, the
program uses the formulae and methods of
BS5950:Part 1:1990.
Section properties
When
calculating section properties, Merlin fully
accounts for all flange tapers and fillet
radii.
In the
calculations for Area, Inertia, Elastic, and
Plastic Modus the program uses a specialist
method of numeric integration.
Values for u
and x are calculated from the
formulae in : Appendix B of BS5950:Part
1:1990.
Warping
constant H is taken from the Steel
Construction Institutes guide: Design of
Members Subject to Combined Bending and
Torsion.
The Torsion
Constant J is taken from: JOHNSTON,
